  1. What an interesting story. How lucky and thrilling to meet one of your idols. Mine too, actually. I think that Mr. Thiebaud has not gotten much respect from the Art World. His Wikipedia page is shamefully meager. But it’s 2016 and he’s 95 and, from what I hear, still working. Thank you for recounting this Ms. Shipko!

    • It was thrilling! I didn’t think his Wikipedia page was so bad until I just compared it to Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, which are so much more extensive. I agree that it’s disrespectful, especially for someone who has positively impacted so many artists and museum goers.

      From talking to Clay and Kelly Purcell, I learned that Wayne Thiebaud spending 5-6 hours a day painting. Truly amazing. I hope that didn’t change after his wife passed away in December, 2015. Thank you for your thoughtful response.
